Wheeler Projected Versus Actual Release
A projected release date is an agency’s current calculation. It is not a promise of the hour or day a person will walk out. TDCJ uses the exact field name “Projected Release Date” for a state prisoner. Classification and Records calculates it from the offense title, offense date, sentence information, credit status, and the rules that apply to that case. A county-jail date comes from the Wheeler County Jail’s local sentence computation and the court’s judgment, not from the TDCJ field.
An actual release date is established after the custody event occurs. Processing may still depend on a release certificate, an approved plan, a detainer, transport, or another agency taking custody. A scheduled exit can therefore end as a transfer rather than community release. The Wheeler booking and release record confirms the local event. The TDCJ record confirms a state event.
A pretrial detainee has no sentence-completion date to calculate. Bond can be posted, modified, or revoked. A judge may issue a release order, and another hold may still keep the person confined. Use the jail for present physical custody and the court docket for the authority behind a change.

Read Wheeler State Release Dates
TDCJ terms answer distinct questions. The TDCJ definitions should control when a label is unclear. Projected Release Date is the current administrative projection. Maximum Sentence Date is the calculated full-term endpoint. A parole eligibility date is when a file may first become eligible for review under the controlling law, not a release appointment. A next-review date follows a parole denial and likewise is not a scheduled exit.

Texas State Release Credit Rules
Texas state good-conduct time does not work as a simple subtraction from the sentence. Government Code section 498.003 says it applies to eligibility for parole or mandatory supervision and does not otherwise affect the term. It is a privilege. Classification governs accrual, while disciplinary demotion or forfeiture can change the credit position. A reliable estimate cannot deduct a bank of credits and announce a guaranteed date.
Parole eligibility is offense and sentence specific under Government Code section 508.145. Certain serious offenses and circumstances generally require actual calendar time equal to one-half of the sentence or 30 years, whichever is less, without good-conduct time, subject to statutory minimums and specialized provisions. Other categories combine calendar time and good conduct. Offense date, judgment findings, prior convictions, consecutive terms, and the current subsection all matter.
Texas has no universal rule that every person must serve 85 percent. Mandatory supervision is also tied to offense category and date. For eligible cases, accrued calendar and good-conduct time may reach the maximum term, but discretionary mandatory supervision for the applicable modern cases requires Board approval. A denial can move the displayed projection toward the Maximum Sentence Date. Later approval may move it earlier for release processing.

Wheeler Jail Credit Is Discretionary
Wheeler County jail credit is not governed by TDCJ’s Projected Release Date. This is the key local computation distinction. Code of Criminal Procedure article 42.032 permits a sheriff to award a good-conduct commutation no greater than one day for each day of the original sentence actually served when no misconduct charge has been sustained. The statute says the sheriff “may” grant it. That wording makes the credit discretionary, not an automatic Wheeler County two-for-one policy.
Court-awarded confinement credit also matters under article 42.03. A sound local calculation starts with the signed judgment, commitment or sentence-start date, the amount of jail credit granted by the court, and whether multiple terms are concurrent or consecutive. Then obtain the sheriff’s applied good-time ledger and current calculated release date.

The sheriff has not published a weekend or holiday adjustment policy. Ask the jail rather than claiming a Friday release. Likewise, do not derive a date from a charge or bond screen. Those facts do not show the final sentence, court credit, local ledger, or another hold.
Why Wheeler Release Dates Change
A release projection changes when the facts or legal path behind the calculation change. Some changes move it earlier. Others move it later or change community release into transfer.

Parole is supervised release from a prison sentence. Probation, called community supervision in Texas, is imposed by a court and is not a TDCJ prison release date. Confirm Wheeler County Actual Release
Near the expected date, check the same official system again. For Wheeler County Jail, ask whether the person is still physically present and whether any hold or transfer is pending.
